Gestión Paywall: How to Read Gestión Articles for Free

Gestión marks its subscriber stories with a Plus G icon and a Piano gate. How the paywall on the Lima business daily works and how to read a full article.

Paywall behaviour last tested

Gestión is Peru's business and economics daily, founded in 1990 and published in Lima by Empresa Editora El Comercio, the newspaper arm of Grupo El Comercio, which also owns the general daily El Comercio, the tabloid Perú21 and the mass-market Trome. Gestión covers the Lima stock market, company results, mining, fiscal policy and the regulatory decisions that shape Peru's economy, and it is the paper that Peruvian executives, bankers and economists read. Its most valuable stories, the company exclusives, the sector analyses and the explanations of tax and tariff changes, are the ones most often marked for subscribers, so a reader arriving from a search result or a shared link frequently meets the subscription prompt. This guide explains how the paywall works and how to read a full article.

How the Gestión paywall works

Gestión runs a subscriber paywall on selected stories rather than a meter across the whole site. Breaking news and agency copy are generally open. Stories reserved for subscribers are marked with a Plus G icon on the home page and in section lists, and the page metadata declares them not free to read (isAccessibleForFree is set to false). The paper's FAQ lists its Plan Digital at a regular price of S/39 a month, with print subscribers paying S/19 a month after a free first month. The mark appears across the sections that matter most to a business reader: the markets pages, the company reports, the mining coverage and the fiscal policy analyses, which is to say the stories you are most likely to have been sent a link to.

The gate is enforced in the browser using Piano, the same subscription system many European and Latin American publishers use. The full text of a Plus G story is delivered in the page so that search engines can index it, and the Piano script then checks whether you are a subscriber and replaces the body with the subscription box. A reader that fetches the page without running that script receives the complete article. Our explainer on metered versus hard paywalls sets out why that distinction matters, and Gestión sits on the softer side of it.

Our tests on 1 November 2026 through Skip the Paywall:

  • A 657-word Gestión analysis of the "arancel de la selva", the tax exemption for the Amazon region that ended up making the region more expensive, loaded in full, all 15 paragraphs.
  • A 506-word Gestión companies report on Laureate's plans for online education and a new UPN campus in Lima Sur loaded in full, all 14 paragraphs.
  • A 499-word Gestión report on Laureate, the owner of the UPC and UPN universities, passing 40,000 online students in Peru and warning of more competition loaded in full, all 8 paragraphs.

Read a Gestión article in full

  • Copy the article link. Gestión links carry the section path and end in the word noticia, in the form gestion.pe/economia/empresas/headline-slug-noticia/.
  • Paste it into the box on the home page and press Read Article.
  • The story appears in a clean reader view with the headline, byline and full text.

The section in the path varies, so a mining story will sit under economia with a different sub-section and a markets piece under its own, but the reader does not care which section an article belongs to. Any Plus G story works the same way, and so does an open story if you simply prefer the uncluttered view.

The reader shows the article in Spanish, exactly as Gestión published it. If you want it in English, your browser's built-in translation works on the reader page in the normal way, which is useful because Gestión's company and mining stories are often the only detailed coverage of Peruvian firms available anywhere.

Other approaches

  • Sister titles. El Comercio, Perú21 and Trome share an owner with Gestión and cover the biggest economic stories for a general audience, often without the Plus G mark. We have not tested those sites and make no claim about them, but for a headline story they are worth a look.
  • Official sources. Much of Gestión's economics reporting works from figures that Peru's statistics office, central bank and ministries publish free, and company stories are usually built on regulatory filings. The analysis is the paper's own, but the numbers are public.
  • Browser translation. If Spanish is the barrier rather than the paywall, the translation built into Chrome, Edge or Safari handles the reader page cleanly, and the financial vocabulary translates well because it is largely shared with English.
  • Private windows. A private window does not help with Gestión. The Plus G gate applies to specific stories rather than counting how many you have read, so there is no meter to reset.

How it compares with other Spanish-language business papers

Gestión's paywall behaves like the ones on the Spanish-language and Portuguese-language business papers we have tested. Spain's El Mundo hides Premium articles with a script in the same way and loads in full. Brazil's Valor Econômico, the business daily closest to Gestión in subject matter, also works. Expansión, Spain's business daily, is mixed: its markets stories load but its Premium pieces return previews, so it is not listed (our Expansión explainer has the detail). The big exception is El País, which does not work: elpais.com blocks the request outright, so there is no El País guide. The full list of sites that work is kept current.

Subscribe if you read it regularly

Gestión is the only daily in Peru dedicated to business and economics, and the reporting behind its Plus G stories, the company interviews and the tax and tariff explainers, takes a specialist newsroom to produce. If you follow Peruvian markets or work with Peruvian companies and find yourself reading it most days, the Plan Digital at S/39 a month is the right way to keep that newsroom going.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Gestión?

Empresa Editora El Comercio, the newspaper publisher of Grupo El Comercio in Lima. The same group publishes El Comercio, Perú21 and Trome. Gestión was founded in 1990 and is the only daily in Peru dedicated to business and economics.

Does the reader work on Plus G articles?

Yes. All three articles in our 1 November 2026 tests, including an analysis of the Amazon tariff exemption and two company reports on Laureate, loaded in full. Plus G articles carry their text in the page and are hidden by a Piano script, which the reader does not run.

Can I read Gestión in English?

The reader shows the article in Spanish as published. The built-in translation in your browser works on the reader page in the normal way, so you can translate the full text once it has loaded.
