We Are Tyrone Paywall: How to Read We Are Tyrone Without a Subscription

We Are Tyrone puts its club and county GAA coverage behind a subscriber paywall. How the wearetyrone.com paywall works and how to read a full match report.

Paywall behaviour last tested

We Are Tyrone is a news site based in County Tyrone, and for most of its readers it is a GAA site first. It follows the county footballers through the league and the championship and covers the Tyrone club scene in more detail than anyone, with previews, match reports and interviews from every grade of the club championship. It also carries local news from across the county. Its links travel through club WhatsApp groups and the Tyrone diaspora, and the reader who follows one often meets the message "This content is for subscribers. Sign in or subscribe to get full access." This guide explains how the paywall works and how to read the full story.

How the We Are Tyrone paywall works

We Are Tyrone uses a subscriber paywall. When you open an article as a non-subscriber the page shows the headline, the picture and a notice that the content is for subscribers, and the body of the story is not shown. The gate is not a monthly meter that you can wait out; it is tied to whether you are signed in with a subscription.

The gate is applied in the browser. The site delivers the full text of each article in the page so that search engines can index it, and a script then checks whether you are signed in and hides the body if you are not. A crawler-style reader that fetches the page without running that script receives the complete article. Our explainer on metered versus hard paywalls sets out why that distinction matters.

Our tests on 13 October 2026 through Skip the Paywall:

  • A 772-word We Are Tyrone report on Pomeroy and the Rock having to do it all again in the club championship loaded in full, all 27 paragraphs.
  • A 553-word We Are Tyrone piece on McGarrity dreaming of marking the Rock's 80 years in style loaded in full, all 14 paragraphs.

Read a We Are Tyrone article in full

  • Copy the article link. We Are Tyrone links look like wearetyrone.com/sport/gaa/headline-slug/ for GAA stories, with other sections in place of sport/gaa for news.
  • Paste it into the box on the home page and press Read Article.
  • The story appears in a clean reader view with the headline, byline and full text.

Other approaches

  • Club and county sources. Tyrone GAA publishes fixtures, results and team news on its own channels, and most clubs post their own match updates on social media. The scores are free; the reporting is what the paywall covers.
  • Local newspapers. The county's weekly papers carry club championship coverage in print, and the print edition is the easiest way to read a full report without an online subscription.
  • Library access. Libraries NI keeps the local weeklies, and some branches offer regional papers through PressReader.
  • Private windows. Because the gate is a subscriber check rather than a meter, a private window does not help.

How it compares with other Irish local news

The Clare Echo is the closest comparison: another local site whose audience comes for club GAA coverage, with a subscriber paywall that loads in full in the same way. The Irish News, which covers Tyrone GAA from Belfast, works too. The full list of sites that work is kept current.

Subscribe if you read it regularly

We Are Tyrone is a small newsroom, and nobody else sends a reporter to a junior championship match in Tyrone on a wet Sunday. If you follow your club or the county team through its coverage every week, a subscription is the right way to keep that reporting going.

Frequently asked questions

Is the We Are Tyrone paywall metered?

No. It is a subscriber gate rather than a monthly allowance. Non-subscribers see the headline and a notice that the content is for subscribers, however many articles they have opened.

Does the reader work on club championship match reports?

Yes. Both of our tests were Tyrone club championship stories about Pomeroy and the Rock, and both loaded in full.

Does it work on We Are Tyrone news stories as well as GAA?

We have only tested GAA stories so far. News articles sit behind the same subscriber gate on the same site, so they very likely behave the same way, but we only vouch for what we have confirmed.
