Ny Teknik Paywall: How to Read Ny Teknik Articles for Free

Ny Teknik, the Swedish engineering weekly, locks its best reporting behind a premium tier. How the nyteknik.se paywall works and how to read a full article.

Paywall behaviour last tested

Ny Teknik is Sweden's engineering and technology weekly, read by engineers, researchers and the industry around them since 1967. It covers energy, batteries, vehicles, defence technology, telecoms, start-ups and the big Swedish industrial groups, with a career section that follows pay, recruitment and working life for engineers. Its reporting on everything from Northvolt to the KTH research scene is passed around Swedish engineering offices daily, and a reader following a shared link often finds the article cut off with a prompt to subscribe. This guide explains how the paywall works and how to read a full story.

How the Ny Teknik paywall works

Ny Teknik runs a freemium model with a premium tier. A share of the site, including many short news items, is free, while longer reporting, analysis and most of the career section is marked as premium and reserved for paying readers. On a premium article a non-subscriber sees the headline, the standfirst and the first paragraphs before the text is replaced by a subscription offer. As far as we can tell there is no counted meter on the free articles, so what matters is whether the piece itself is marked premium.

The gate is applied in the browser. The nyteknik.se pages carry the article text so that search engines can index it, and a script hides it from visitors without a subscriber session. A crawler-style reader that fetches the page without running that script receives the whole article. Our explainer on metered versus hard paywalls covers why this kind of gate can be read around when a server-side one cannot.

Our tests on 17 October 2026 through Skip the Paywall:

  • An 817-word Ny Teknik report on OpenAI's claim to have solved the famous Navier-Stokes problem, with a mathematician describing colleagues as shaken, loaded in full, all 23 paragraphs.
  • A 698-word Ny Teknik career piece in which a KTH professor explains how AI could take over researchers' jobs, saying that right now the human is the bottleneck, loaded in full, all 26 paragraphs.

Two tests is a smaller sample than we usually run, but both pieces were marked premium, one from the tech section and one from the career section, and both came through complete.

Read a Ny Teknik article in full

  • Copy the article link. Ny Teknik links look like nyteknik.se/tech/headline-slug/4492981, with a section, the headline and a seven-digit number at the end.
  • Paste it into the box on the home page and press Read Article.
  • The story appears in a clean reader view with the headline, byline and full text. It is shown in Swedish as Ny Teknik published it, and your browser's translate function works on the reader page if you want it in English.

Other approaches

  • Newsletters. Ny Teknik sends free email newsletters by subject, including energy, vehicles and careers, which summarise the main stories and link to them.
  • Library access. Swedish public and university libraries hold the print edition, and many offer Ny Teknik digitally through PressReader or a similar service with a library card.
  • Private windows. Premium articles are locked per article rather than by a cookie count, so a private window does not help here, although it clears any registration prompts that build up after a few visits.
  • Related free sources. Much of what Ny Teknik reports on research comes from KTH, Chalmers and the Swedish Research Council, which publish their own releases free, and company news is usually on the companies' own sites.

How it compares with other sites

Ny Teknik is the first Swedish title on our list, and it loaded in full on both tests. Specialist trade and science titles tend to be among the more reliable sites for the reader, because they publish the full text for search engines and rely on a script to hide it, and Ny Teknik fits that pattern. For a sense of how it sits with other specialist publications we have tested, the full list of sites that work is kept current and sorted by category.

Subscribe if you read it regularly

Ny Teknik is a specialist newsroom serving a professional readership, and its premium tier is what pays for reporters who understand batteries, grids and procurement well enough to question the press releases. If you work in Swedish engineering and read it every week, a subscription is the right way to keep that going.

Frequently asked questions

What is Ny Teknik?

A Swedish weekly for engineers and the technology industry, published since 1967. It covers energy, vehicles, telecoms, defence technology and research, with a career section aimed at working engineers.

Are all Ny Teknik articles behind the paywall?

No. Many short news items are free. Longer reporting, analysis and most of the career section are marked premium and show only the opening paragraphs to non-subscribers. Both of our tests were premium articles.

Can I read the articles in English?

The reader shows the article in Swedish, as published. Browser translation works on the reader page, so you can translate the whole piece into English.

Skip the Paywall is an independent reader tool and is not affiliated with any publication mentioned. Paywall behaviour changes over time; the notes above reflect our testing at the time of publication. If you read a publication regularly, please consider subscribing to support its journalism.
